Driver Assist Safety Technology
There’s no denying that shoppers in the crossover SUV segment are looking first and foremost for a vehicle that will keep them and their families safe. On the surface, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 and 2017 Honda CR-V appear to have similar safety profiles, with standard safety features like front side airbags, side curtain airbags, stability control, traction control, and a rearview camera monitor. Both models also earned five out of five stars in government crash safety tests and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Unlike the CR-V, though, the Toyota RAV4 boasts Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a Pre-Collision System with Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, all as a part of the Toyota Safety Sense™ P suite
, which comes standard even on the base trim of the RAV4. By contrast, the Honda Sensing™
safety package is unavailable on the base CR-V trim, and it does not include pedestrian detection.
Standard and Available Features
Even on the base trims, both models come with power windows and door locks, Bluetooth® phone and audio, cruise control, and air conditioning, though only the Toyota RAV4 gets a standard 6.1-inch Entune™ touchscreen interface and infotainment system, which makes listening to your music, placing calls, or using the backup camera a breeze; compare that to the Honda CR-V’s smaller standard 5-inch display. Also, while toward the top of the trim ladder, both models are offered with leather upholstery, heated front seats, and more, the 2017 Toyota RAV4 is the only vehicle of the two that’s offered with a heated steering wheel, the perfect solution for brisk mornings and those chilly, rainy days.
